Case Study: Wye Valley NHS Trust Moves
In order to provide patients with the care they so desperately require, hospitals are continually expanding and upgrading their buildings. Hereford hospital is no different, and have recently taken possession of two buildings from the county council.
With large amounts of work required to bring these buildings up to modern standards, the hospital reached out to a contractor they know and trust. That’s where Goodridge Electrical Contractors Ltd came in.
The Project
As with many hospitals, Hereford hospital is constantly being updated and refurbished. Office and record-keeping space is at a premium, yet these areas are key to the smooth day-to-day running of any hospital. As part of an expansion, two older huts which used to house office space are being demolished to make room for a new building. To replace them, the Wye Valley NHS Trust took over two buildings from the local council.
Harold Street – a former TA centre which has stood empty for a number of years, and the Franklin Barnes Building which had recently been vacated by the council.
Both properties needed work to meet the latest standards, and over a number of months, Goodridge Electrical Contractors Ltd ensured this work was carried out to the highest standards.
The Outcome
The Harold Street building proved to be the larger of the two projects. Everything from electrical distribution to lighting was obsolete and unfit for purpose. Our contractors started by replacing and thoroughly testing distribution boards and circuits, before installing energy efficient LED lighting. Emergency lighting was also fitted, along with power points for office equipment and new electronic door security keypads.
The Franklin Barnes building was a much smaller project, but one which still required us to work closely with hospital staff. Emergency lighting was fitted to a newly-installed fire escape, before we fitted additional power sockets and power poles to allow the hospital to house their administrative staff.
Working on and off around the hospital’s busy schedule, we ensured that the project was completed on time and on budget, and we are happy to announce that Hereford County Hospital’s administrative and record keeping departments are now happy in a well-lit, comfortable new office space.
