Hereford County Hospital Lionel Green Mains
Medical equipment places huge demands on any building’s power infrastructure, so as that infrastructure reaches the end of its serviceable life, hospital administrators and staff begin to face growing problems. This was the case for Hereford County Hospital’s Lionel Green Building, where the submains and mains distribution panel had begun to show signs of wear and tear.
Goodridge Electrical Contractors Ltd were on hand to upgrade the infrastructure, while liaising with specialists to handle another pressing issue.
The Project
The main problem faced in the Lionel Green building was that aging cables had begun to perish, making it difficult for hospital staff to power down the electrical system. Furthermore, the mains room within the building was responsible for distribution across a wide area of the hospital, leading to widespread power issues.
To compound this, the distribution room of the building had been closed due to the presence of asbestos, meaning that our team would need to liaise closely with a firm of asbestos specialists.
As rooms were cleaned and the air tested, our experts were able to enter the submains and replace expiring cables. All the while, hospital staff were kept informed of our progress to allow them to keep providing their invaluable service to the local community.
Finally, our electricians were able to update the mains distribution to a new MCCB panel, allowing for more efficient distribution.
The Outcome
After four weeks of out of hours work during the hospital’s quieter times, Goodridge Electrical Contractors Ltd had replaced the Lionel Green Building’s perishing cabling and wires, and provided an efficient new distribution board that will allow hospital staff to manage their power requirements for years to come.
The work was hard, and the hours late, but the end result is a fully powered hospital that can continue to serve our local community.
